Hilti and AVR With all the ruccus on Hand Arm Vibration and not without reason, it's good to see manufacturers are shifting to the new landscape.
Hilti, has come with a proprietary technology, to reduce the transmitted vibration for a power tool user. Known as AVR or Active Vibration Reduction - it can reduce transmitted vibration by up to 50%. The method involves separating the handles from the vibrating members and reducing vibration by transmitting the vibratory energy through an ingenious system of dampeners. Now if this all seems too high tech to you - in simple terms it means it should reduce your risk of HAV by a fair amount. A friend of mine has recently purchased a Hilti Digger Hammer with the technology and he is most impressed. Other manufacturers such as Dewalt and Milwaukee no doubt solve these problems in their own ways. The units for measuring vibration are meter/second/second. Some manufacturers print the rating in the booklet that comes with the tool. If you are using power tools for extended periods of time I recommend considering it's vibration index carefully before making a purchasing decision. One Hilti model with this technology is: TE 905-AVR Breaker Hammer
